Want to know how I find peace amidst the chaos... its more than my yoga practice 😂


I love love love the energy of my house.

It is a home with all the “sounds of life.” (A term my yoga teacher, Shiva Rea uses.)

It’s filled with laughter, joy, brothers wrestling, lots of legos, Alexa music choices of Metallica, Crazy Frog…

It’s a full on sensory experience.

Which is wonderful AND can be “too much for my nervous system.” (Says ME, OFTEN!!)

But Reader, what I’m really saying is, “I need more SENSORY REST up in here!”

👉🏼The 7 types of REST (with some examples):

Physical: can be passive or active- deep sleep, naps, napitations, breathing, yoga, stretching, meditation, mindfulness, stillness

Mental: Rest the mind - brain breaks during your work day, music, silence, journaling

Emotional: authentically expressing emotions, sharing/being witnessed, therapy, journaling, stopping people pleasing

Social: spending time with positive people, nurturing important relationships

Sensory: resting of the senses…what you hear, see, taste, smell, feel…letting your eyes rest, your ears rest, being in nature with all of the elements and smells, cozy pajamas, hugs, or sometimes the absence of the senses etc.

Creative: making creative spaces, putting beauty around you, being in nature, resting the brain, being curious, living in wonder

Spiritual: doing things that provide meaning, meditation, spiritual practice, community

What’s your go to type of rest?

Do you get too much of one type and not another?

HUGE M’F DISCLAIMER HERE: noWHERE is it listed that looking at your phone / IG feed / amazon shopping - is a type of rest.

(Stepping off soap box now 😆)

Rest is self care. It’s not just another thing for the to do list, or schedule an appointment for.

You are one choice away from creating rest in doing less or nothing, stopping a behavior

Or habit, or changing the environment you are in.

Rest allows your nervous system to down regulate, get out of flight or fight so…

-You don’t lose your SH_* when things change at work

-Or you trip over other human’s dirty laundry all over your house

-Or a family member says or does something RANDO…


Rest is similar to play as it helps us to REMEMBER who we are..

A RETURNING to this BEAUTIFUL SOUL navigating the journey of our life.


Rest makes YOU a BETTER YOU.

How to bring MORE REST in your life today.
